As part of the global consultations held with young refugees, the Refugee Support Center, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Women's Refugee Commission (WMC) and Plan International organized a three-and-a-half days of consultation meeting in Ankara on May 14-17, 2016.
The consultation was a national meeting held as part of the global consultations organized in 9 different countries with refugee youth. Coming from different parts of Turkey, young people aged between 15 and 24 years from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Somali and Libya came together with Turkish young people and had the opportunity to generate solutions for the problems they and their communities face, make their voices heard, hear about others' opinions and establish new contacts for three days.
A half-day meeting was held at the end of three days, where young refugees and Turkish people presented the issues they discussed and the solutions they generated during the consultation to representatives of several institutions, including the Ministry of Family and Social Planning, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Interior Directorate General for Migration Management, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, International Organization for Migration, United Nations Development Programme, the embassies in Ankara and several non-governmental institutions working in the fields of youth and refugees.
The issues determined and solutions generated at the meeting in Ankara were also discussed in the global consultation meeting held on June 11-14 in Geneva and were elaborated on the final report released by the UNHCR and WMC.
